The basic premise of acupuncture and Eastern medicine is that when an energetic imbalance arises, then illness, disease, and pain result. If all pathologies result from stagnated Qi, then rebalancing this electric energy with needles and herbal therapies can cure a variety of symptoms.  From the perspective of Chinese medicine, all chronic disease patients share one thing in common: deficiency. These patients have weakened Qi, and this can manifest as fatigue, lack of strength, weakened immune function, and/or chronic illness. They also may have excess heat, inflammation, or toxicity that is contributing to the severity of their condition.

Acupuncture for Chronic Conditions

Dr. Li Xin Zhang has had tremendous success with a variety of chronic conditions, most notably asthma, diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis. Acupuncture yields amazing results across all chronic conditions, ranging from allergies, to insomnia, to mitigating cancer and the side effects of its treatment.

Acupuncture aims to reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms and increase the quality of life. It achieves this through building up the patient and their depleted energy levels and immune system, better known in Chinese medicine as their Qi, Yin, and blood. Excesses within the patient must be cleared and eliminated from the body, such as excess heat, inflammation, and toxicity. Herbal therapy is highly recommended in treating chronic disease, as it amplifies the effects of acupuncture and makes the patient feel better, for a longer period of time. Depending on the severity of the condition and its duration, most patients will see a reduction in symptoms in as little as 3-5 visits.

Most chronic condition patients will require long-term care and an individualized rigorous treatment plan that they can maintain. Rebuilding these systems in the body requires time and patience, and it is difficult to say exactly how long it will take to see symptoms disappear completely. However, one can expect to see a reduction in the frequency and severity of symptoms and an increase in the overall quality of life. If the condition were to worsen at any point, the treatment interval would be increased until the symptoms are minimized.

I came to Dr. Zhang for asthma treatment. My father, a practicing physician in Colorado, tried every drug Western Medicine had to offer. But no matter what medications I took, my symptoms remained. I left for college and played my first year as a Division I lacrosse player coughing my way through every practice. It got to be so bad my teammates called me “the whoop.” That summer I went to Dr. Zhang, and in three months I was totally cured. For the first time in my life I could breathe with ease. The digestive problems I thought to be totally unrelated vanished, along with my “chronic” cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath. I truly felt like a new person. When I returned to the lacrosse field that fall, I played at a level beyond my wildest dreams. Dr. Zhang is unmatched in his compassionate wisdom. Every visit he greeted me with a smile and a joke. His skill is beyond anything I could have imagined, and I would highly recommend him to anyone who struggles to overcome their illness. He does not just treat the symptoms. He really does cure you.
